Who conducts it

The National Testing Agency (NTA), once a year.

What it decides

Seats for MBBS, BDS and the AYUSH degrees BAMS, BSMS, BHMS and BUMS. It is also used for the 15% all-India quota in veterinary (BVSc & AH) colleges.

Exam pattern

180 questions in 3 hours for 720 marks — 45 Physics, 45 Chemistry and 90 Biology — with no optional questions (NEET 2025 pattern).

Counselling

All-India quota seats through MCC; Tamil Nadu state-quota seats through the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee; AYUSH seats through AACCC and the Tamil Nadu Indian Medicine selection committee.

What it does NOT decide in Tamil Nadu

Nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy and other paramedical degrees, TANUVAS state veterinary seats and BNYS are allotted on Class 12 marks.
