Your route, step by step

1. 1Class 11–12: take PCBA very long path, so start with strong NCERT Biology and steady study habits from Class 11. Prepare for boards and NEET UG together.
2. 2NEET UG → MBBS · 5.5 years4.5 years of study plus a 1-year internship. Seats through MCC (all-India quota) and Tamil Nadu medical counselling.
3. 3NEET PG → MS General Surgery · 3 yearsFirst train as a general surgeon. A few institutes also offer a direct 6-year MCh after MBBS through NEET PG.
4. 4NEET SS → MCh Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery (CTVS) · 3 yearsIntensive training in heart and chest operations.
5. 5Practise as a heart surgeonSpecialise further in transplant, paediatric heart or minimally invasive surgery.

What a cardiothoracic surgeon does

• Assess patients referred by cardiologists and chest physicians
• Perform bypass, valve and congenital heart operations
• Operate on lung and chest-wall diseases
• Manage patients in cardiac ICU after surgery

Entrance exams & admission

• NEET UGFor the MBBS seat (conducted by NTA)
• NEET PGMD / MS / DNB seats (conducted by NBEMS); 50% of government seats are all-India quota, 50% Tamil Nadu quota
• INI-CETPG seats at AIIMS, JIPMER, PGIMER and NIMHANS
