Your route, step by step

1. 1Class 11–12: take PCBCell cycle, genetics and molecular biology in Class 11–12 are where cancer science begins. Prepare for boards and NEET UG together.
2. 2NEET UG → MBBS · 5.5 years4.5 years of study plus a 1-year internship. Seats through MCC (all-India quota) and Tamil Nadu medical counselling.
3. 3NEET PG → choose your oncology routeMD Medicine then DM Medical Oncology; MS Surgery then MCh Surgical Oncology; or MD Radiation Oncology directly.
4. 4NEET SS → DM Medical Oncology or MCh Surgical Oncology · 3 yearsSuper-specialty training (radiation oncologists finish after MD).
5. 5Practise in cancer carePaediatric, haemato- or gynaecological oncology are further paths.

What an oncologist does

• Confirm the cancer type and stage
• Plan treatment with surgeons, radiation and medical oncologists
• Give chemotherapy, targeted and immunotherapy
• Support patients through treatment, follow-up and palliative care

Entrance exams & admission

• NEET UGFor the MBBS seat (conducted by NTA)
• NEET PGMD / MS / DNB seats (conducted by NBEMS); 50% of government seats are all-India quota, 50% Tamil Nadu quota
• INI-CETPG seats at AIIMS, JIPMER, PGIMER and NIMHANS
