JEE Main

Conducted by the National Testing Agency. Used for NITs, IIITs and many other institutes, and to qualify for JEE Advanced. Paper 2 is for B.Arch and B.Planning.

JEE Advanced

Conducted by one of the IITs each year, for students who qualify through JEE Main. It decides IIT seats, and is also used by IIST (ISRO’s institute).

Seat allocation

IIT, NIT and IIIT seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling.

In Tamil Nadu

Most state engineering colleges admit through TNEA on Class 12 marks, so strong board marks matter even if you write JEE.
